Converting to a federal charter allows Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union to better support our long-term growth, streamline regulatory oversight, and operate more efficiently as we continue to expand our membership and services. This change positions us to remain strong, competitive, and member focused well into the future.

A state chartered credit union is supervised by both the Connecticut Department of Banking and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Going forward, Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union would be regulated only by the NCUA.

There will be no impact to members. Our commitment to service, products, and community remains the same. This change is primarily operational and is designed to support growth without disrupting member relationships.

This creates operational efficiencies for our credit union, so we spend more time focused on programs, services, and benefits for members – while maintaining the same strong regulatory oversight that keeps the organization safe and sound.

No, members will continue to have access to their accounts, digital banking, and services as usual.

No, all account numbers, routing numbers, and debit/ATM will remain the same. Members will not need to order new checks or cards because of this charter change.

No. Member deposits will continue to be federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to applicable limits, just as they are today.

Members will have the opportunity to participate in the approval process. Ballots will be distributed starting August 3rd, and members may vote for the proposed charter change if they choose to participate at the linked page here. Final votes must be cast by September 3rd, 2026, 5:45pm EST.

Yes, our legal name will change to Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union.
