Nutmeg is Dedicated to Our Communities
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard me say that Nutmeg’s focus is on technology and making it easy for you to transact business with us regardless of which delivery channel you choose. In the past few years, we have undergone huge transformations, including upgrading all our electronic services and data systems. We also recently upgraded all our Debit and Credit Cards to the most secure platforms available.
But today I want to talk about the other part of our mission, which is to serve all our communities. We are committed to being a supporter of local initiatives and working with underserved populations.
Last year we were designated as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) by the US Department of Treasury. This means that we have been officially recognized as a financial institution that is dedicated to serving low-income areas by providing access to financial products and services for underserved markets. We are one of a small, but growing group of financial institutions throughout the country with this status. As a CDFI organization, we will continue to develop our products and services to help a wider variety of members.
This past summer, we were also granted the “Juntos Avanzamos” designation from the Federation of Community Development Credit Unions. Spanish for “together, we advance,” this term symbolizes the credit union’s support for Connecticut’s minority and emerging markets. Many immigrants are turned down for loans and have a hard time trusting financial institutions. We are devoted to making a positive impact by developing new programs that make it easier to take out loans and build a more stable financial future.
Our staff is also very dedicated to helping with our mission. This past April, credit union employees celebrated Credit Union Youth Week by working with the March of Dimes. Our employees and members raised $2,000 to help premature babies get the vital support they need in their most critical time after birth. This money was donated to the local March of Dimes chapter and will benefit Connecticut families. We are honored to work with the March of Dimes and look forward to more opportunities to help in the future.
Our Credit Union Youth Week fundraiser earned us recognition from The Credit Union League of Connecticut. Nutmeg was one of only two Credit Unions in the state to be awarded the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award!
We are very proud of all the work we do to serve our membersand the entire state of Connecticut. As always, we thank you for allowing us to help with all of your financial needs. Thank you for choosing Nutmeg.
Sincerely,
John Holt
