Stay Protected During the Holiday Shopping Season

It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are here! I want to remind you of the importance of being vigilant while you do all your holiday shopping. As you know from the recent Equifax data breach, there’s a lot of vulnerability to everyone’s personal data. The good news is that technology has helped create more secure ways to use your credit and debit cards.

EMV Chip Technology

All Nutmeg Debit and Credit Cards have been reissued to include the latest EMV Chip Technology. Instead of using the traditional magnetic stripe, this chip securely encrypts your data. This makes it harder for fraudsters to obtain any information from your cards. This is the new universal standard required for retailers. Not all merchants have caught up yet, so your cards still include a magnetic stripe for use at stores and gas stations that have not yet implemented this technology.

Mobile Pay

In order to upgrade all your cards, we were required to briefly suspend our Mobile Pay services. I’m pleased to announce that our Mobile Pay is back! We offer Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay. These services are available for most of your smartphones, tablets and watches. Simply add your Nutmeg Debit and Credit Card into your device. Find out more about these services.

To use Mobile Pay simply hold your phone near the card machine and follow the steps. When using this technology, the app only sends a one-time-use code to the merchant. Your information is never shared and you won’t risk anyone seeing your card number or name on your card. This method can be used at any cashier’s card machine with this icon:

Stay Vigilant

This is a busy time of year and it’s easy to miss fraud on your cards. Do not overlook purchases that you don’t believe were made by you, no matter how small they are. Oftentimes, fraudsters are making small purchases to test the card before making a big purchase. Staying on top of your transactions is easy! Simply use our e-Alerts to get real time text and email alerts every time there’s activity on any of your cards or accounts. Read my recent blog post to find out about e-Alerts and all the other ways we can help you stay safe from fraud!
