Each June marks Pride month – a time to celebrate the incredible progress the LGBTQ+ community has made over the past 53 years in pursuit of dignity, equality, and acceptance. Pride Month is a time to remember the remarkable equal rights journey the LGBTQ+ community has fought for decades.

Guided by our mission of building prosperity for all, we are amplifying our commitment to equity and inclusion of all intersections and dimensions to lift our LGBTQ+ staff and community with a sense of belonging and compassion. I recently shared our commitment to multigenerational prosperity in the PRIDE issue of Connecticut Voice magazine and invite you to check it out.

In addition to participation in Pride celebration activities and events, Nutmeg State will also honor Juneteenth in acknowledgement of the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Inclusivity is core to our purpose and this extends to our family, friends, and neighbors. To quote the great civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”

As we continue to collectively navigate the evolving social and economic landscape, Nutmeg State is elevating our social responsibility programs to provide equitable access to resources to help meet the needs of all of our membership. One example is our Working Wheels Car Ownership Program launched in early 2019. To date, 115 working families have participated in this meaningful program. We continue to be inspired by the stories of our hard-working members building their lives.

I am honored and humbled to lead an organization genuinely representing the communities we serve. As a member-owned cooperative, the spirit of people helping people is on display every day.
