Nutmeg in the Community this Holiday Season

December 16

If you are a frequent reader of my blog, then I am sure you know all about our dedication to the community. It is one of my favorite areas of the credit union’s mission and always gives us a sense of pride whenever we help make a difference. With the holiday season now in full effect, it is an important time to remember our communities and do our best to give back. I’d like to take a moment to talk about what we’re doing for the holiday season and how you can show your support.

One of our many long-time community partners is Channel 3 Kids Camp, an organization dedicated to providing educational camp programs for children across the state. Over the years, we have helped them with many fundraising events in the community. You may have seen us before at their annual Telethon Fundraiser events, where we volunteer to collect caller donations and match them dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000. And just last year, we helped raise over $100,000 across all Kids Camp community events! With my position on the Channel 3 Kids Camp Board of Directors, I am excited to continue helping them make a positive impact as we enter the New Year.

This holiday season, I am proud to say that Nutmeg is working with Channel 3 Kids Camp to support their annual Holiday Light Fantasia event. From now until January 1, Goodwin Park in Hartford will be decorated with holiday lights for the community to enjoy. Nutmeg staff will be on site to direct visitors, collect donations and help make sure the event goes smoothly. All of the money raised will also benefit Channel 3 Kids Camp and support their mission of providing fun learning opportunities for children throughout Connecticut. This is a cause that is very important to all of us at Nutmeg and I encourage you to visit Goodwin Park to show your support.

I’d also like to quickly mention that our work with Channel 3 Kids Camp was recently recognized at the state level. For the third year in a row, Nutmeg was selected as the winner of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. This award is presented by the Credit Union League of Connecticut and is given to the credit union that demonstrates the highest level of commitment to the community. I am extremely honored to accept this award for a third year and proud of all the work we have done to reach this point. Working with Channel 3 Kids Camp has become much more than just a partnership over the years. It is an important community tradition that we will continue on into the future.

With WFSB as one of our oldest partners and friends, I would also like to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of anchor Denise D’Ascenzo. In our long-time experience with WSFB, Denise was always a strong supporter of the community and dedicated herself to making a difference for people across the state. Working with her in the past not only left a positive impact on members of the community, but also on all of us at Nutmeg. She and her family will be in our thoughts this holiday season.

As always, we will continue to help our communities in any way we can at public events, fundraisers and more. Opportunities like ours with Channel 3 Kids Camp are what push us to do our best and give back to those in need. I hope to see you and your family at the Holiday Light Fantasia this year and wish you a safe and happy holiday.

Sincerely,

John Holt
