Nutmeg Supports the Walk to End Alzheimer’s

September 18

For this blog post, I wanted to take some time to talk about a topic that is very important to me and all of us at Nutmeg. As you may have heard, in 2020 there may be significant budget cuts to funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute on Aging (NIA). These organizations play a key role in researching the cure and prevention of diseases. One important area impacted is research related to Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, and I’m sure that you or someone you know has experienced its effects in some way.

Because Alzheimer’s impacts our communities so much, I believe it is very important to spread Alzheimer’s awareness in any way we can. I’d like to share some information about what we are doing to help and how you can contribute today.

I am very proud to tell you Nutmeg will be a main sponsor for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Connecticut. The walks will take place in New Haven on September 29 and Hartford on October 13. This campaign raises awareness and money for Alzheimer’s support and research. I will be at both events with the Nutmeg team and encourage you and your families to come out and show your support. This is a cause we deeply believe in and I would be very excited to see our members at these events!

In addition to the walks, there are other ways you can show your support. You can visit any of our branch locations this month and submit a donation directly to the Alzheimer’s Association. Below, you can also donate online on behalf of our Nutmeg teams participating at the walk events. So far we have already contributed over $11,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association! In addition to our $10,000 donation, we have raised over $1,000 and counting from staff and member donations. I am extremely proud of the work we have done so far to help this cause and love seeing the community come together.

Due to the potential budget cuts to these essential programs for the research of Alzheimer’s and other diseases, now is more important than ever to show your support. Together, we can all make a significant impact and I hope you will join us!
