Nutmeg in the Community

May 5

I wanted to take a moment and talk about one of my favorite areas of the credit union’s mission, our commitment to the community. If you live or work in Connecticut, you’ve probably seen us at a community event at some point over the past few years. Whether it’s at a local town event or a larger state-wide event, we are very active and get to meet many families from all over the state. As a CEO, I know the importance of this commitment and spend much of my time serving on volunteer boards and committees. Additionally, our Board and our staff are very active in the community and participate in both Nutmeg-sponsored events and other community events.

I’d like to share some information about a couple recent events that have had excellent results and have given us all a great sense of pride.

This past March, we sponsored the Channel 3 Kids Camp Telethon. The credit union team came out in full force to support the event. We matched pledges made during the telethon dollar for dollar, adding an extra $10,000 to create an $80,000 grand total. Fifteen staff members answered phones during the event and supported me while I spoke about our commitment on air with WFSB’s Scot Haney and Nicole Nalepa. We are proud to have supported the Channel 3 Kids Camp for the past 4 years, and will continue to support their events throughout the 2018 year.

You’ve probably also seen our Mobile Branch at a festival or local event. This branch is equipped with everything a traditional branch has, including an ATM. This branch travels the state from early spring to late fall each year.

The first Mobile Branch event of this year was the recent Daffodil Festival at Hubbard Park in Meriden, CT. Thousands of visitors come to the park to enjoy the spring scenery, food and entertainment. We were able to interact with hundreds of new faces and educate them about how a credit union can make their financial lives easier.

Another community organization that we are proud to sponsor is the March of Dimes. I’m proud to have been the Chairperson for this year’s March for Babies, held at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT. Through the generosity of our local and national partner businesses, we raised over $40,000 for the event. Additionally, our employees and members raised over $1,000 to help premature babies get the vital support they need in their most critical time after birth. All of Nutmeg got together on the Friday before the March for Babies and wore purple in support of the cause to help generate some excitement and education on this great organization. Not only did this help raise more money for the cause, it was a great way to grow as a team! All funds were donated to the local March of Dimes chapter and will help Connecticut families during some of their most difficult times. We are honored to work with the March of Dimes and look forward to more opportunities to help in the future.

We are very proud of all the work we do to serve our members and all our local communities. As always, we thank you for allowing us to help with all of your financial needs. Thank you for choosing Nutmeg.
